Spherical Plain Bearings requiring maintenance
Bearings requiring maintenance must, due to the steel/steel or steel/bronze sliding contact surface, be lubricated. The lubricant reduces friction, decreases wear, increases the operating life and gives protection against corrosion. When designing the bearing arrangement, it must be ensured that the bearing position is adequately provided with grease. The bearings are available as radial, angular contact and axial bearings.

Radial spherical plain bearings
Radial spherical plain bearings comprise inner rings and outer rings with a steel/steel or steel/bronze sliding contact surface and are lubricated via the inner and outer ring. They can support radial forces, transmit motion and loads with low moment levels and thus keep bending stresses away from the adjacent structure. The bearings are particularly suitable for alternating loads with impact type and shock type stresses and can support slight axial loads in both directions. Sealed spherical plain bearings are protected against contamination and spray water by lip seals.

Angular contact spherical plain bearings
Angular contact spherical plain bearings comprise inner and outer rings with a steel/steel sliding contact surface. They can support not only radial forces but also higher axial forces, are suitable for alternating dynamic loads and are used, for example, as a plain bearing alternative to tapered roller bearings of series 320X to DIN 720, where loads in conjunction with small swivel angles would lead to rolling bearing damage. Angular contact spherical plain bearings transmit motion and loads with low moment levels and thus keep bending stresses away from the adjacent construction. They are intended for grease lubrication and are lubricated via the outer ring.

Axial spherical plain bearings
Axial spherical plain bearings comprise shaft and housing locating washers with a steel/steel sliding contact surface, can support axial forces and transmit support forces into the adjacent construction with low moment levels. They can be combined with radial spherical plain bearings of series E to ISO 12 240-1 in order to support radial forces. The bearings are lubricated via the housing locating washer.

Maintenance FREE Spherical Plain Bearings
Maintenance-free spherical plain bearings are used where there are particular requirements for operating life or where bearings with a metallic sliding contact surface are not suitable for lubrication reasons, e.g. under unilateral load. Spherical plain bearings allow spatial adjustment movements and, depending on the bearing type (radial, angular contact or axial spherical plain bearing), can support, radial, combined or axial loads.

Maintenance-free spherical plain bearings have special sliding layers based on PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). In descending order of performance, these are:

  • ELGOGLIDE® – the highest performance sliding layer
  • PTFE composite
  • PTFE-bronze film.

These materials form the slideway of the outer ring or shaft locating washer. They transmit the forces occurring and provide lubrication – the bearings must not be lubricated by any other means.

Radial spherical plain bearings
Radial spherical plain bearings comprise inner and outer rings with maintenance-free sliding layers of ELGOGLIDE®, PTFE composite or PTFE-bronze film. They can support slight axial forces as well as radial forces and are suitable for alternating dynamic loads. Sealed spherical plain bearings are protected against contamination and spray water by lip seals. Large spherical plain bearings of d = 320 mm and above belong to the premium grade X-life.

Angular contact spherical plain bearings
Angular contact spherical plain bearings comprise inner and outer rings with ELGOGLIDE®. They can support higher axial forces as well as radial forces and are suitable for alternating dynamic loads.

Axial spherical plain bearings
Axial spherical plain bearings comprise shaft and housing locating washers with ELGOGLIDE®. They are preferably used to support axial forces and are suitable as support or base bearings. Large spherical plain bearings of d = 220 mm and above belong to the premium grade X-life.

Cylindrical plain bushes
Cylindrical plain bushes comprise a steel bush with ELGOGLIDE®. They permit not only swivel movements but also axial movements and can support higher forces than conventional plain bearings.
